Possible factors – cravings and weight issues

Unexplained weight loss and an inability to lose weight are often the first symptoms seen when our health slips away. Since metabolism is affected by so many biological functions, it can often be difficult to know where to start to address these concerns. Failure to lose weight may be an indicator of inflammation resulting from gastrointestinal distress and/or food sensitivities. Inefficiencies in our stress response related to neurotransmitters or hormonal imbalances could also play a role. An underactive thyroid can be a contributing factor to extreme and sudden weight loss.

Imbalances in neurotransmitters, such as low serotonin levels, have been linked to a significant increase in carbohydrate and sugar cravings. Carbohydrate intake can often provide a temporary boost in serotonin production, so those carb cravings may just be a sign that serotonin levels are low.
